MASTERTON SALE The Associated Auctioneers report on I heir weekly sale held yesterday, us follows: —The local farmers supported the Patriotic Stock Drive very well, sending in 1450 sheep. 5G cattle and 7 pigs, and these were sold along with the usual stock. Prices generally' were on a par with recent sales, except in same cases the stock donated for the patriotic funds exceeded present day values. The following will give an indication of values received:— . Fat Sheep—Fat wethers, 20s, 20s lOd. 21s to 225; heavy fat maiden ewes, 255; heavy fat ewes, 12s. 12s Cd to 13s; fat ewes, 10s. 10s Gd to Ils Gd; fat lambs, 21s to 235. Store Sheep.—4-tooth wethers. 19s; 2tooth wethers, 17s to 18s 4d; 2-tooth ewes, 18s to 235; 4-tooth ewes, 17s; 6year ewes, 12s; aged ewes, 8s to 9s: old ewes, 4s to 6s; b.f. lambs, 14s 6d to 18s; wether lambs, 14s to 14s Gd; medium do. 9s to 10s 6d;; small lambs. 7s to 7s Gd; Romney.rams, Ign to IJgns; Southdown rams, Ign to 2gns. ' Cattle. —Fat cows, £7 14s to £9; fat dairy cows, £4 5s to £5; 21-year P.A. heifers, £4; IJ-ycar P.A. steers, £4; Jersey cows, £2 10s to £3 10s; weaner Jersey heifer, £2 ss. PAHIATUA SALE The Associated Auctioneers report on the Pahiatua sale as follows: —Some 1500 sheep were offered to a fair attendance of buyers. Practically a total clearance was effected at prices throughout showing a drop of 3s. per head. Quotations: —M.a. ewes, 245. Gd., 235. to 205.; two-tooth ewes, 255. Gd., 255. to 245. 3d.; old ewes, 10s. 3d„ 9s. Gd. to Bs. 4d.; b.f. lambs, 13s Bd, 13s. 4d., 13s. to 125.; w.f.w. lambs, 135., 125., Ils. Gd. to 95.; ewe lambs, 16s. Bd., 15s. Gd, 155., 14s 6d. to 13s 9d.; two-tooth weaners, 17s. 9d., 17s. 3d., lGs. 9d. to 16s. Gd.; pigs, weaner. 14s. Gd., 14s, 12s. Cd. to 12s. ADDINGTON MARKET FLOODS AFFECT SUPPLY, LATE RATES MAINTAINED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 19. Floods, which are fairly general over the province, reduced the supply of stock at today’s Addington market. Rain fell almost continuously today, and, as a cold, gusty wind blew intermittently, the sale was held under depressing conditions. Prices were maintained in most sections. Store sheep: An entry of 9000 head contained some good lines, including ' Chatham Island consignments. Best two-tooth Romneys from the south sold up to 335., local halfbred two-tooths to : 255. 6d„ with several other lines from 245. up. Chatham four-year and fiveyear ewes sold at 18s., and other open- ‘ woolled sound-mouth ewes from else- ■ where at 16s. Full and failing fine 1 wools ranged from Gs. to 9s. and sound mouth 9s. 6d. to 14s. Fat sheep: A small penning of 3200 head. Values were a shade better than a week ago for wethers and up to Is. 6d. for best ewes. Export sorts, for which there was no export demand, showed little change. Best wethers made 265. to 295., a few tops going to 335., and good medium sorts 225. Gd. to 255. A specially good pen or two of 1 ewes sold from 19s. to 235., but the bulk of the better quality ranged from 14s. Gd. to 175., with rough down to 9s. < Fat cattle: Four hundred and forty- I seven were penned, and the demand improved by 10s. a head for best cattle, others being unchanged. Best steers made £l6 10s. to £l9, good £l3 to £l6. rough down to £8; best heifers ( £9 10s. to £l2 12s. 6d„ and cows £8 15s to £ll. Best beef made 375. 6d. to 295. 6d. a hundred pounds, good 345. 5 to 375., and rough down to 265. Porkers sold at a sharp advance of i about ss. a head, the entry being exceptionally small. Prices ranged from j £2 Bs. 6d. to £3 6s. 6d., and the aver- ] age price a pound was 7Jd. to 9d. The ] bacon entry was unchanged, but values ( slipped for heavier sorts by ss. to Gs. a t head. Prices ranged from £3 2s. Gd. ] to £4 Is. 6d„ the average price a pound being GJd. to 7d.
