CARTERTON
FOOTBALL CLUB ("Times-Age” Special.) Enlistments of local footballers in the N.Z. Forces will leave the ranks of the Carterton Club seriously depleted this season, with a further decrease in numerical strength as more players join up with the forces. However, it is hoped to keep the Carterton football flag flying with players either too old, unfit or too young for military service. ENGAGEMENT FOREMAN—RENALL. The engagement is announced of Robert (Paddy), youngest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. J. F. Foreman, Ponatahi, to Patricia Myrtle, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Renall “Te Awa” Kokatau. HOME GUARD FURTHER ENLISTMENTS. The weekly parade of the Carterton Coy. was held in the King’s Theatre, Belvedere Street, last evening. It is proposed to hold a four days’ training course for Officers and N.C.O.’s of the Home Guard from Good Friday to Easter Monday inclusive, on the Solway Showgrounds. The Carterton Unit quota is 21 men. Officers and N.C.O.’s prepared to attend must notify the Coy. Sgt. Major Keall immediately. It is optional whether those attending the training course attend each day from Carterton or stay on the Showgrounds. If remaining at Solway they will need blankets, palliase and eating utensils. The following new guardsmen have marched into the Company:—Thomas W. Bond, Basil L. Gallon, Edmond T. Hurndell, Maurice A. Knowles, Thomas Mackay, W. John McPhee, Percy J. Nicholls, Stanley J. Rzoska, Francis G. Stubbs, John W. Tomlin. Physical Instructors: L/Cpl. S. T. Rooney is to carry rank of Cpl. (temporary). The Dairy Season. Local factories are experiencing a satisfactory season and supplies of milk have increased at most of the factories as the result of the recent rain. There is a substantial increase in the cheese and butter manufactured this season as compared with last season. Red Cross Society. On Monday evening the first of the year’s first aid lectures under the auspices of the Red Cross Society was given at the Dalefield Buildings, Carterton. The lecturer for the home nursing course is- Mrs. Loftus, a fully qualified nurse of wide experience. Her lecture was on bandaging, after which a knee bandage was demonstrated and practised by over 30 enthusiasts.These lectures are to be held weekly. Dance at Belvedere. On Friday night a dance will be held in the Belvedere schoolroom. As these dances are very popular there is sure to be a large attendance. Plunket Society. Residents of Carterton and surrounding districts are notified that the Carterton Branch of the Plunket Society will hold a shop day in Krahagen’s Building on Friday, March 28, when there will be a fine display of goods for sale. Social Gathering. The bandroom, Carterton, should be filled tomorrow evening when a social gathering will be held in honour of Air Gunner Jack Manley, R.N.Z.A.F. Good music and supper will be supplied.
