CALL FOR SERVICE
YOUNG MEMBERS OF FIRST DIVISION REGISTRATION CONDITIONS. . STATEMENT BY MR SEMPLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The Minister of National Service (Mr Semple) today explained that, in view of the difficulties of keeping track of approximately 40,000 prospective members of the First Division who were under nineteen years of age in May. 1940, it was decided to extract the registration forms of those who would reach nineteen up to December 31. 1940, and bring them into the register as having attained the requisite age, while those attaining the age of nineteen on or after January 1, 1941, would be required to re-register. The position therefore was- that those reaching the age of nineteen between May and December last should receive a certificate of enrolment, within 28 days of their birthday. If not, they must re-register immediately. Those reaching the age of nineteen subsequently must register immediately after their birthday, without waiting for a certificate of enrolment.
