SHORTAGE OF APPLES

ODD ’POSITION IN DUNEDIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, March 18. The rather Gilbertian situation has developed that after the nation-wide appeal to buy dessert apples this fruit is not available. Retailers, who launched the campaign at the request of the Marketing Division and booked large orders, find they cannot fill them. One broker said that as a result of the appeal he could have sold 1000 cases of Cox's Orange apples in 10 minutes yesterday if they had been available. The local branch of the Marketing Division states that the crop of Cox’s Orange has not realised expectations, but Jonathans are due in about a fortnight.
