ACTION AT TANGIER
LOCAL OFFICIAL OUSTED BY SPANIARDS RESIDENCE TAKEN OVER BY NAZIS. FULL REPORT AWAITED IN LONDON. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 17. A full report from the British representative in Tangier of an action by the Spanish authorities on Saturday, the ejection of the Mendoub of Tangier and the abrogation of all his functions, is awaited in London. The Mendoub represents in Tangier the Sultan of Morocco, who is recognised by the Convention of 1923 as the sovereign of this permanently-neu-tralised international port. It would appear then that the Mendoub’s ejection is in the first instance a matter primarily concerning the relations between Spain and France, the Power holding the protectorate of Morocco. A Tangier message states that the German consulate has been reinstated in the official residence of the Mendoub of Tangier—the Sultan of Morocco’s representative, who was ordered to quit the building.
