Hemi 2; time, 54sec. 100yds relay: Featherston 1; Masterton B 2; Carterton E 3. CATTLE INJURED RUN INTO BY RAIL CAR. As the result of being struck by a rail car at the Lincoln Road railway crossing on Sunday, two cows died from injuries and one had to be shot. A drover was driving a number of cattle from the Waiohine Gorge Road by way of the Dalefield and Lincoln roads. He was unable to prevent the animals from crossing the line with the result that the car ran right into them. ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. / The fortnightly meeting of Loyal ' Heart of Oak Lodge was held last evening and was presided over by Sister F. I. Eagle. Sick pay amounting to £6 10s and other accounts totalling £lO 15s were passed for payment. Progress reports were received from two members on the sick funds of the Lodge.

A member on active service overseas wrote thanking the Lodge for a Christmas parcel of cigarettes. Correspondence was received from the Grand Secretary regarding the proposed State Medical Service stating that it -would be very unwise for lodges to prejudice in any way the existing arrangements with their doctors. It would be equally unwise for members to go off their doctors’ lists until it is proved beyond any question that they are able to secure a better service under the State scheme than they were receiving at present through their lodges. Matters in connection with the Nelson centenary, which will take place next year, were discussed and it was resolved that the question of securing ■ data for a publication for the occasion be left in the hands of the secretary. CONCERT AND DANCE ENJOYABLE GATHERING. In spite of the inclement weather experienced last evening there was a very large attendance at the St. Patrick's concert and dance held in the King’s Theatre Carterton. The concert items were of a very high standard . and all were enthusiastically encored. .< The following was the programme:— Pianoforte duet, Misses V. Sorenson and I. Irwin; Irish Jog duo, Misses McMillan and Curry (Masterton); chorus, Convent School children; song, Mr Alan Goulding; recitation, Miss BettyBarnes (Masterton); song, Mrs Tracey (Wellington); Irish dances by Mr H. Twohill and Mrs Walsh (Wellington); character song and dance. Miss Beulah Hirst (MastertonJ); monologue, Convent School children; Hornpipe, Miss O. Curry; recitation or song, Miss Betty Barnes; song, Mrs Tracey; Irish dance, Mr Twohill and Mrs Walsh; character duo, Misses A. and V. Sorenson; character dance. Miss Beulah Hirst; song, Mr Alan Goulding. At a suitable interval in the proceedings the Rev. Father Devlin thanked those who had assisted at the concert, the Nuns for having prepared the children for the items they so splen-l didly performed, the organiser. Miss Berill, and the ladies' committee who had charge of the supper arrangements. Mr J. Dwane announced the items and the accompanists were Misses Irwin. Berill, Hayes and Mr L. Dacke. Dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Udy’s Dance Band, much appreciated extras being played ' by Miss V. Irwin and Mr E. Minifie (Masterton). During the evening the hamper raffle was drawn, the winner ' being Miss L. Tucker and the ticket • No. 532. The M.C. was Mr Morris. 1 Dancing was continued till the early hours of this morning, the singing of 1 “Aulde Lang Syne.” and the National Anthem bringing a very enjoyable gathering to an end. s Personal.
