MAGNIFICENT HEROISM

STAND OF BRITISH RACE UNDER BLITZKRIEG. CHILDREN SING WHILE BOMBS FALL. A good indication of the indomitable spirit of British people under the German blitzkrieg is provided in the following letter, which appeared in a .recent issue of the "Christian Science Monitor”: — Richmond. Surrey. Since our trials began, tribute has been paid to the heroic stand of the British race. It has been magnificent, but it would be an impertinence for me to add further to this praise. 1 must, however, offer my feeling of admiration and praise in behalf of the children. Their conduct has been wonderful. My Anderson shelter is shared with another family and there are seven of us altogether, including three children. Otten a portable gramophone is taken down to the dugout, the children preferring this to the radio which is often at half strength. They love to sing and the other evening it was an inspiration to listen to them. Enemy planes were speeding across the sky. guns were roaring, and frequently one could hear the whistle of bombs and the immediate thud and explosion. Quite unperturbed they continued to sing and out into the noisy night went forth the strains of "When the Poppies Bloom Again."—Albert W. Parker.
