FOR DURATION OF WAR PALMERSTON NORTH RAILWAY DEVIATION. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government has decided to suspend construction work on the Palmerston North railway deviation for the duration of the war, according to an announcement made today by the Minister of Public Works, Mi’ H. T. Armstrong. Among the reasons for the decision. he said were that necessary material was not available nor the necessary labour. The Minister made it plain that there was no intention to abandon the deviation, which, after the war, should provide useful employment for a number of men in Palmerston North.
