STATE THEATRE

TWO SPLENDID FEATURES. The change of programme at the State Theatre tonight will contain two splendid features. The first one is “Pier 13.” When Lynn Bafri and Lloyd Nolan meet on New York's waterfront in “Pier 13,” the stage is set for thrills and fun. And there's plenty of both in the new 20th Century-Fox film. Nolan, in a surprise role. that surpasses his great hit in “Johnny Apollo,” is particularly effective as the police officer with a beat on the waterfront,' where things happen faster and funnier than anywhere else. Lynn Bari provides a sparkling performance in her role. Others in the fine featured cast include: Joan Valerie and Douglas Fowley. With Nolan tracking him down, Fowley—a daring, jewel thief—-forces Lynn and Joan to let him hide in the attic of their home. Thoroughly enjoyable throughout, “Pier 13” provides a thrilling and unusual climax. The other picture is “The Gay Caballero.” -Back in the blaze of daring adventure, Cesar “Cisco Kid” Romero rides again in “The Gay Caballera.” Shooting swiftly and loving gaily, Cisco’s latest adventure begins with the false rumour of his death. Bad-men run wild and the old Southwest is in terror until the Cisco Kid puts in an appearance to match wits with his most dangerous adversary—a widow who owns a million acre ranch. Featured in “The Gay Caballero” are Sheila Ryan, Robert Sterling, Chris-Pin Martin, Janet Beecher, Edmund MacDonald and Jacqueline Dalya. Sheila Ryan provides the romance in “The Gay Caballero.” Portraying the daughter of a greenhorn Englishman, Sheila captivates the colourful Cisco with her | striking beauty.
