EKETAHUNA

HORSE SPORTS GATHERING AT ALFREDTON. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was an excellent attendance at the Alfredton Horse Sports on the Alfredton Domain on Saturday. Though the weather was overcast, the conditions were pleasant and a most successful gathering resulted. The horse events attracted large entries. the competition throughout being keen. A pleasing feature was the manner in which the president. Mr J. L. Heckler, and his energetic committee conducted the running of the programme which .was completed with a minimum of delay. The secretary, Mr R. G. Low, is to be complimented for the ' excellent service he gave. The various side shows and novelty stalls were well patronised. The announcements were made per the medium of Mr J. R. Berney’s address system and this was much appreciated by competitors and spectators alike. As a result of the meeting the Patriotic funds will benefit considerably. ' A successful dance was held in the Alfredton Hall in the evening. There was a big attendance of visitors. The music was supplied by Jack Barnes’s Orchestra and the duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr D. Smith. During the evening Mr Heckler returned thanks on behalf of the club to those present. Inter-club games.—Gossling Stars (three juniors and a senior skip): The 100th game was played at Woodville between Woodville and Eketahuna last Saturday. Anslow, Hawkes (s), Woodville, 28/11. Oxley Cup: The Eketahuna rink (holder) of the Oxley Cup was defeated on Saturday by a rink from Pahiatua. Scores: Hartley. Sedcole, Boyens, Petersen (s). PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH BOARD OF MANAGERS. At the monthly meeting of the Board of Managers of the Eketahuna Presbyterian Church a large amount, of ground work was finalised in regard to the proposed extension of Church activities in the district. The committee set up for this purpose reported on their previous meeting with neighbouring churches and their efforts had resulted in a definite move towards this objective. It was also decided to renovate and

paint the church at an early date. The Managers expressed the view that the Church was wholeheartedly behind the proposal of introducing the Bible in Schools Scheme to the Eketahuna School. It was decided to hold Harvest Thanksgiving Services to canvass for donations of produce. PLUNKET SOCIETY MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna sub-branch of the Plunket Society there were present IVlesdames C. E. Albrechtsen, Ives, N. Williams, S. Daniel, K. Marenzi and H. Higginson. Accounts amounting to £1 3s 6d were recommended for payment. A letter was received from the Eketahuna Athletic Club seeking the Board's co-operation in their patriotic effort. The committee agreed to the request. It was decided to hold the annual meeting on April 10.
