SWIMMER DROWNED

CAUGHT IN UNDERTOW. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 16. A man was drowned while swimming out to a dinghy in Hobson’s Bay today. The victim was Cecil Roland Arthur Gordon Bowyer, aged 37, telegraphist at the Remuera Post Office. He was a married man with two small children. With a friend, Mr. Allen Kerr, Mr. Bowyer was going fishing. He started to swim out to bring in a dinghy for his friend, who was waiting on the shore, but after he had gone about 50 yards he got into difficulties and called for help. Mr. Kerr swam out about 40 yards but was forced to return to the shore because of the strong undertow. Meanwhile, Mr. Bowyer disappeared. His body was recovered later.
