CARTERTON

RACING CLUB MEETING OF STEWARDS. ("Times-Age” Special.) Mr L. H. Smart presided over a meeting oi' stewards of the Carterton Racing Club held in the P. and A. Society rooms last evening. There were also present: Messrs G. A. Vincent, J. Johnston, W. C. Deller, P. Bain, J. C. Harp, E. J. 'Matson, C. Jensen and R. G. Kemble. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. Howard Booth, V. L. Robinson, G. H. Eaton and P. A. Cole. Four new members were elected and one resignation accepted with regret. The secretary, Mr H..Mortensen,' submitted a pro forma balance sheet for the year ending July 31, 1941, which disclosed a loss over the year of £349 14s. On the other hand the profits from the farming operations amounted to £2OO. No provision was made in'the balance sheet for depreciation of buildings, etc. The debit balance at the Bank of New Zealand is £1046 14s. Accounts amounting to £545 9s were passed for payment. Mrs S. J. Reid and family, of Hastings, wrote thanking the club for its letter of condolence in their recent bereavement. Messrs W. Howard Booth and J. W. Card were appointed delegates to the New Zealand Racing Conference. It was stated that a racing date had been applied for in September next. Votes of thanks were accorded to Messrs Vincent, Yule and Larsen for donations to the club; to the Masterton Racing Chib for the use of jockey's colours, and to the Wairarapa Racing Club for the use of marbles. BOROUGH COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING. The Mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner, presided over a special meeting of the Carterton Borough Council held last evening, for the purpose of considering the District Electors’ List for the forthcoming municipal elections. There were also present: Councillors E. McLKenzie, H. Mortensen, C. J. DeLacey, E. Stevens, R. A. Copeland and the Town Clerk, Mr P. A. Cole. The Mayor explained the procedure to be followed and on his motion, seconded by Councillor Mortenson, Councillors E. McKenzie and C. J. DeLacey and the Town Clerk were appointed a committee to go into the question of the Electors’ List. SWIMMING SPORTS CHILDREN IN COMPETITION. Yesterday a party of primary children from the Greytown District High School, accompanied by their teacher, Mr Whimp, visited Carterton for the purpose of competing against the local school children. A cricket match was played on the school grounds and swimming contests were held at the Carterton borough baths. Carterton defeated Grey town by 53 runs to 12 runs, Chapman (16) and Booth (10) batted well for Carterton.

Outbreak of Mumps. Mumps are prevalent among children in Carterton at present.
