; SALE AT ADDINGTON DROP IN SHEEP PRICES. FAT CATTLE VALUES EASIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 12. As the result of very little competition from freezing buyers in the fat sheep section of the Addington maj-ket todaj r there as was a sharp drop in lhe value of export ewes. Exporters are operating to a negligible extent at public markets, as under restrictions made necessary by the shipping position their operations are monopolised by stock going direct to works. Fat wethers retained recent values, but' export ewes were down by about 2s. 6d. a head. Fat lambs were affected by about Is. a head by the same cause, but butchers accepted most of the small entry. Store sheep comprised a big entry of about 16,000 head, mostly ewes of very moderate class, which sold at the low values ruling recently. For all quality ewes, however, there was a steady demand at recent ewe fair rates. Fat cattle sold less keenly than a week ago, and were easier by about 10s. a head. Best steers made £l5 to £lB, good medium weights £l2 to £l4 10s., and rough down to £7 10s. Most of the cows brought from £5 to £B, but the few quality pens ranged from £lO to £ll. The bacon market eased by from 4s. to 7s. a head because of export restrictions. Prices ranged from £3 2s. 6d. to £4 10s. 6d„ an average price a lb. of 6.? d. to 7;Jd. Porkers were also easier by from 3s. to 45.. the average price a lb. being 7.’ d. to BJd.
MASTERTON SALE SMALL ATTENDANCE OF BUYERS. KEEN DEMAND FOR LAMBS. The Associated Auctioneers report on their Masterton sale yesterday as follows: —Approximately 10,000 sheep and lambs came forward. There was only a small attendance including a few outside buyers. The quality of the breeding ewes was very ordinary with the exception of a few pens of two-tooths. The older ewes met a dragging sale, and the market appeared to have been well satisfied from previous sales. Good rape lambs and ewe lambs met a keen sale while wethers remained at late rates. . The following were the prices obtained: — Fat sheep: Fat wethers, 195., 20s. 3d. to 215.; fat ewes, 10s. 6d. to 11s.; fat lambs, 255. F fat S.D. maiden ewes, 15s. 6d. to 17s. Ewes: Two-tooth ewes, A/c. A. G. Tinkham 245, others 215., 21s. Bd. to 225. 6d.; small 18s. to 195.; four-tooth ewes, a/c. A. G. Tinkham, 265.; others, m.a. young ewes, 15s. 3d. 16s. 6d„ 18s. 3d. to 195.; six-tooth ewes, a/c. A. G. Tinkham, 255.; four-year ewes, a/c. A. Geddes, 19s. Gd.; five-year ewes a/c. F. W.
