MAGISTRATE’S COURT
SITTING IN MASTERTON THIS MORNING. MOTORING & OTHER CASES. The fortnightly sitting of the Masterton Magistrates’ Court was held in the Courthouse this morning. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.. presided. Archibald Thompson McNeilage was fined £2 and 10s costs on a charge of having driven a motor vehicle across the railway line at Petone on January 30. while the line was not clear. Charged with having parked a motor vehicle longer than 45 minutes in Queen Street on February 24, Stuart R. McLaughlin was fined 10s and 10s costs. The Borough Traffic Inspector, Mr J. McGregor, prosecuted. The Inspector of Awards (Mr N. Pelvin) proceeded against Edith Maud Watson on two charges of failing to keep a wages and overtime book. Fines of £1 and 10s costs and 10s and 10s costs were imposed. Mr R. R. Burridge appeared for the defendant. S. Gray was fined £1 arid 12s costs for having overtaken a vehicle travelling in the same direction without a clear view ahead of 300 feet. The information was laid by the Transport Department. E. Grey was fined 10s and 10s costs for having ridden a cycle in Queen Street without a light on March 6. 1941. A charge against John O’Leary Peters of having assaulted C. R. Mabson on December 21, 1940, was dismissed. Mr N. G. Whiteman appeared for the defendant. CIVIL CASES. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following undefended civil claims: Commissioner pf Taxes v Alfred William Ashworth, claim £1 16s 4d, costs 10s; Florence Emma Siddells and H. Persen v Ivy Millar, claim £l3 Is, costs £2 17s; W. Burridge and Son v D. Taylor, claim £1 9s, costs 10s; Wairarapa Radios v G. Hing, claim £1 Ils Gd. costs 12s.
