QUEEN CARNIVAL
NAVY=NURSING SERVICE BOXING & WRESTLING TONIGHT. STAR ATTRACTION ON FRIDAY. An attractive programme of wrestling and boxing is to be provided in the Opera House tonight in conjunction with the auction of the patriotic flag, culminating in bouts between Maurice Strickland, C. Hanham and D. Marsh. Activities to further the candidature of Miss Barbara Barton (Queen) and Miss Audrey Burling (Princess Royal) during the week include a star attraction on Friday night when the Savage Club will provide the programme and on Saturday night when the Little Theatre Society will stage “Without the Prince,” a riot of humour done by a first-class cast. The booking is fairly heavy, so intending patrons are recommended to reserve their seats without delay for Saturday as the proceeds for that night will be earmarked for the Navy-Nursing funds. Y.M.C.A. EFFORT. The final of the three card parties sponsored by the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Y.M.C.A. in support of the NavyNursing Queen will be held tomorrow night in the Y.M.C.A. rooms commencing at 7.45 o’clock. An invitation is extended to all to join in making this a good patriotic effort towards the raising of Masterton’s quota to New Zealand's Million Pounds for the fighting services. The winners will receive good prizes, and the ladies will provide a dainty home-made supper, all for the moderate charge of Is 6d each. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE DANCE. The St. John Ambulance Brigade will hold a dance in the Masonic Hall on Saturday night in aid of the NavyNursing Queen’s campaign. The music will be supplied by Jack Barnes’s Rhythm Boys. The duties of M.C. will be carried out by Mr C. S. McQuade (Cadet Superintendent). Novelty dances will be held. Popular prices are being charged. ARMY QUEEN TOMORROW’S ATTRACTION. Tomorrow night a Masterton “Search for Radio Talent” will be held in the Municipal Hall at 7.30 o’clock in place of the races (previously announced). Those possessing the ability to sing, dance, recite or perform in any manner or play an -instrument are asked to send in his or her entry to The Tank not later than 5 p.m. on Thursday. There is no entry fee and judging will be by popular vote. On Saturday and Sunday the public will have the opportunity of hearing the Trentham Military Band, both indoors and at the Park Oval when an outstanding display of marching by the band should be witnessed. The band is an exceptionally fine combination of musicians and some stirring band items as well as solos should be heard. As the band will be here for a weekend only it is hoped that the public will take full advantage of hearing this band. RAFFLE TICKETS. Mr. Hayden of the State Kitchenette requests that all raffle ticket butts for the section in College Street be returned to him not later than noon tomorrow, and all other Army Queen raffle ticket butts not later than Monday next at noon. POSITION OF QUEENS AIR FORCE NOW IN LEAD. Considerable changes have been recorded in the positions of the candidates in the Queen Carnival campaign.
