OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS

LORRIES IN LINCOLN ROAD (To the Editor.) Sir, —When some months ago a complaint was made concerning lorries in Lincoln Road it was admitted that there was just ground for complaint. We were then bidden to exercise a little patience and all would be well. Sir. patience has not been’merely exercised , but severely strained, and what has been the result? Public trees battered and bruised, their mangled branches painful to witness; the same sight of from five to twenty lorries parked for hours outside private residences whilst the right-of-way and depot are at least half empty; the same fruity smells from the sheep lorries, and I was going to say the same flymenace. rather 1 should say, a few thousand of their descendants. Now we have the added instance of a sheep lorry (unlighted) left on the road all night. Would any other town in New Zealand allow these things on a main street? Surely such proceedings will do much to enhance the reputation of Masterton as a clean town! The continuance of this nuisance (which by the way has obtained wide publicity) leaves one with a doubt whether the council has the authority to deal with it. or is it not prepared to exercise its authority?--1 am. etc., OBSERVER. Masterton. March 8.
