“Wings Over New Zealand.”

At the request of the Minister of Defence, the Hon, F. Jones, a private preview of the special air force picture “Wings Over New Zealand’’ was given in the State Theatre, Masterton, last night. In addition to the Minister there were also present, Mrs. F. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. T. Jordan. Mr. J. Robertson, M.P., and Mrs. Robertson, and a number of prominent Masterton citizens. The picture was greatly appreciated and provided evidence of the splendid work 'which was being done by the air force authorities in New Zealand in training men for the air force, and to protect New Zealand from air raiders.

Athletic Records Broken. The Auckland centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, with 34 points, had no difficulty in retaining the H. L. Towers Shield, awarded annually to the province obtaining the most points in junior men’s events, when the New Zealand women's and junior men's amateur athletic championships were held at Wanganui on Saturday. The Lumley Sistors Memorial Shield was retained by Auckland. R. Harris, in the 880 yards junior men's championship covered the distance in 1.58 4-5, beating the existing New Zealand record of 2.0 3-5. H. Nelson (Otago) clipped 5 3-5 seconds off the New Zealand record in the junior men's mile championship. He finished strongly in 4.30. Records were also broken in field events by men and women. In the junior men's discus championship, K. J. Morgan (Otago) was first with 130 ft. 10 l-Bin.. breaking the New Zealand record of 124 ft. 8 in. J. Radich, West Coast (North Island), 127 ft.. who was placed second, also broke the Dominion record. In the women’s discus throwing championship. D. Mullins (Auckland), 99ft. 7in., broke the existing New Zealand record of 97ft. Ilin.
