SWIMMING | PATRIOTIC CARNIVAL. ("Times-Age” Special.) On Thursday evening, the Swimming Club held a Carnival in aid of patriotic funds. Kaio and Mills 2 (equal). Relay race: Martinborough A 1; Masterton 2; Martinborough B 3. 4 ; ‘ Vital Statistics. The vital statistics for Martinborough for February are: Births 6. marriages 1. deaths 0. Soldiers Entertained. Last night the Town Hall was packed when a number of soldiers were entertained. Dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Udy's Orchestra, and during an interval Mr Pryor chairman of the Patriotic Society, thanked the public for their assistance and reviewed the work done by the Society in the many patriotic efforts now being made. The Mayor (Mr C. W. Skill) with appropriate words handed a gift to each of the following men: Gunner G. Bryce. Driver L. Chapman, Privates J. Connelly. A. Herrick. H. Kelly, H. Kershaw, E. King. J. Marshall. G. A. Welch, A. Hodder. Sergt. P. Ward, Private E. A. Johnston. Apologies for absence were received from Privates E. P. Smith, O’Brien and A. P. Jensen. Hearty cheers and musical honours were accorded the soldiers. Garden Circle. The monthly meeting of the Garden Circle was held at Mrs J. Cotter’s residence yesterday when a large number of members were present. The competitions resulted; Cut blooms: Mrs Boyd 1; Mrs Hardinge 2; Mrs Cotter 3. Shrubs: Mrs Harding 1.
