BRILLIANT GATHERING

AT SOLWAY SHOWGROUNDS TRUE CARNIVAL SPIRIT. RESULTS OF HORSE EVENTS. Bright sunshine is flooding the Solway Showgrounds today where all has been prepared for the appearance of the band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Children’s horse events began before lunch and the gymkhana is being continued this afternoon with open competitions which include musical stalls, turning affinity and shirt races, a cigar and umbrella race and jumping events. The events are being conducted in a true carnival spirit, leading up to the principal events of the day. viz., the appearance of the Ail- Force Band. At the time of going to press there is a continual flow of people into the grounds. The horse events so far decided are:— Pony events, 13 hands: Melva Swanson, 1; J. Davies, 2; Fay Jenkins, 3. Pony, 13 to 14.2 hands: Joan McGuinness, 1; Judith Macßae, 2; Jill Macßae, 3. Best girl rider, under 12 years: Lorraine Jameson, 1; Fay Jenkins 2. Best girl rider, 12 to 16 years of age: Joan McGuinness, 1: Melva Swanson, 2; Phyllis Swanson, 3. Best boy rider, under 12 years: lan King, 1; T. Jones, 2; D. Rutherford 3. Best boy rider, 12 to 16 years of age: O. Stevens, 1; P. Walsh. 2; G. Wagg, 3.
