GREEKS READY
STILL HOLD INITIATIVE BRITISH AIR SUPREMACY. ITALIANS LOSE 53 PLANES IN FIVE DAYS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, March 6. The Athens radio stated that the initiative on all fronts exclusively belongs to the Greeks. The troops’ morale is excellent, and they are ready for any developments unflinchingly. The Italian and German air squadrons are no longer facing lone fighters. The Italians have lost 53 planes in five days, against a loss of three British. Many of the Italian losses include the latest 300-miles-an-hour bombers, which are front-line machines that Italy can ill afford to lose. The building up of the Royal Air Force in Greece means that it today guards the skies while the Greek artillery silences the enemy guns, driving the enemy back.
TURKEY’S POSITION STATEMENT ON WEDNESDAY. PARLIAMENT CONVENED. LONDON, March 7. It is announced in Ankara that the Turkish Parliament will meet on Monday and that the Prime Minister, Dr. Saydam. will speak on Wednesday. It is believed that the Turkish Ambassador to Berlin will shortly deliver his Government’s reply to Hitler’s message. A Turkish deputy in a Press article says: “Germany is now Turkey’s neighbour. Therefore Turks' must be ever more vigilant. Nazi methods are well known in Turkey. The people are faced with a most sacred duty and must be always ready.”
