RED CROSS SOCIETY

MASTERTON SUB-CENTRE. BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society was held in the Red Cross room on Wednesday evening when Mrs. Tolhurst presided. In connection with the question of uniform for transport service. Miss Barnett stated that the working uniform consisting of boiler suit and beret was sufficient. A letter was read from the Centre concerning a grant from the Macarthy Trust to be distributed among SubCentres for use in work connected with local distress. As the Masterton SubCentre was leaving the matter of cases of local distress to the Womens National Welfare Society and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, it was decided that the Masterton Sub-Centre make no application for any grant from this fund. A letter was received from the Dominion Secretary stating that owing to shortage of shipping space at the moment, relief goods for civilians and refugess. etc., could not be forwarded for the next few months. Sub-Cen-tres were advised to hold their goods until such time as they were notified that shipping space was available. Mrs. Stewart gave a report of the meeting held when members of the Wellington Hospital supply committee met delegates from all Wairarapa SubCentres. The Hospital supply group has held four sewing afternoons, and a good deal of work had been finished. She expressed thanks for many useful parcels, including new blankets, which had been donated, and hoped that the generous support would be continued. Mrs. Lyttle was appointed a convenor to the Sewing Group in place of Mrs. Brenkley who had resigned. The Knitting Group will re-start their activities on Maych 26. and until further notice will meet, in Messrs. Hugo and Shearers Oak Room. The question of setting up a voluntary aid transport service was discussed. and it was decided to appoint a small committee to make the necessary arrangements to establish a Red Cross voluntary aid transport service The following were elected to this committee: —Miss Barnett. Mrs. Pither, Mrs. Norman Lee. Miss Cruickshank. Miss Cruickshank was instructed to get in touch with all those wishing to join up and undertake training for this service. The annual meeting was fixed for Wednesday. April 2. and nominations for the offices of president, vice-presi-dent. patron, secretary, treasurer and delegates to centre are to be lodged with the secretary 10 days prior to the meeting
