WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age" Special.) I Mrs. 1. D. Cameron presided over a large attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Mauriceville Women's Institute, hold at her residence. The representative of the Dominion Federation. Mrs. Keir. along with other visitors, was welcomed by .the president. Mrs. Keir was presented with an autumn shoulder spray. The president presented Mrs. G. Osborne with a flora] spray, congratulating her on having been present at all Institute meetings during the past year, and for her help during that period. A comprehensive report of the year’s activities was presented by the secretary, Mrs. G. Wilson. Together with the balance sheet, the report was adopted. Several members subscribed to the opinion that generally the Institute was in a sound position. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Miss R. Mortensen; vice-presi-dents. Mesdames J. A. Raine, J. L. McArley and Nikolaison; secretary. Mrs. G. Wilson (re-elected); committee, Mesdames H. Myers, G. Neilson, G. Osborne. H. Trass and Miss J. Larsen. Miss R. Mortensen then took the chair and appealed to all members for their close co-operation in all Institute activities. ■ The organisation should represent one powerful light, not to be dimmed. Mrs. Keir addressed the meeting and stressed the hope that the Mauriceville ladies would continue to assist in all patriotic efforts. The free lending library available to country districts, through the Institute, was explained by Mrs Keir, and it was thought that this benefit should be taken advantage of. It was decided that Mrs J. A. Baine, with assistance, should again during the next year, be responsible for the soldiers’ parcels. The competitions resulted as follows: —Mystery parcel. Mrs King; car competition, Mrs C. Clark and Pain; nail J. A. Baine. Mrs Mortensen thanked the retiring president for the afternoon tea and the use of her home, and this brought an enjoyable meeting to a close after the singing of the National Anthem. Soldiers Entertained. There was a good attendance at the Mauriceville East Hall on Wednesday evening when many settlers of the Mauriceville County entertained Privates G. Meurk, H. Askew and G. T. Ozanne at a dance. An enjoyable time' was spent in dancing and during the evening presentations of a wristlet watch were made to the guests of honour by Messrs E. W. Cheetham and J. L. McArley. The three soldiers suitably replied. Dance music was supplied by the Te Tau Melody Makers, and Mr J. A. Baine, assisted by Mr D. Johansen, acted as M.’sC.
