FLIGHT FROM SPAIN

HOW KING CAROL & MADAME LUPESCU FLED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, March 6. Madrid newspapers, describing the flight of ex-King Carol, of Rumania and Madame Lupescu from Spain to Portugal, said Carol did not pay his bill in the hotel where for five months he and Madame Lupescu were virtually prisoners. They sent their servants off on errands, left most of their luggage and three dogs and drove to Badajos, where they abandoned their car and entered a car which friends had driven from Portugal.

Carol had for months repeatedly appealed to General Franco for permission to leave Spain, specially after reports that three members of the Iron Guard had left Rumania for Spain.
