LITTLE CHANGE IN VALUES. FAT SHEEP EASIER. ißy Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. March 5. Entries were slightly larger than usual at today's Addington market. Generally' there was little change in values, except for fat sheep, which were easier. Store sheep and lambs numbered about 14,000 head. Forward lambs sold unchanged, making up to 18s. 6d.. but those for carrying over were down by Is. to 2s. a head. The 9000 ewes included in the store entry all met buyers, though a considerable proportion was of very ordinary standard. Best Romney cross ewes made up to 375. 9d, for two-tooths, best halfbreds of corresponding class selling at 245. to 265. 6d. Four-year open-woolled sheep made to 16s. 9d. for southern Marlborough ewes. Most of the better fine-wool sheep of this age ranged from Ils. to 12s. 6d.. and strong wools 16s. to 18s.
The fat sheep entry numbered 5000, with a few wethers and generally an indifferent class of ewe. Wethers were easier by Is. a head and ewes by Is. 6d. A few ewes were bought by exporters at under schedule. Best wethers made 265. to 305., tops to 335. and medium 235. to 265. A few lines of ewes made over 205.. tops being to 255. 6d., but practically the whole of the entry ranged from 18s. downward. Fat cattle numbered 454 and the entry was one of the poorest of the season. Good cattle as a result sold at a rise of about 10s. a head, all other sorts being slightly easier. Best beef made from 375. to 40s. a hundred pounds, with a few special pens to 425. Best steers realised £l4 to £l7, tops to £l9, and medium to good steers £ll to £l3 10s. A few prime cows and heifers sold at up to £l3 odd, but the bulk of the cull cows sold from £5 to £6.
Fat pigs were easier, porkers by an average of 2s. a head and baconers by about 3s. Porkers sold from £1 19s. 6d. to £2 19s. 6d., average price a pound 7d. to Bd.; baconers, £3 Is. 6d. to £5 6s. 6d., average a pound 7d. to 74d.
EWE FAIR AND SALE AT MASTERTON YESTERDAY. PRICES EASIER. The Associated Auctioneers report having held their Masterton supplementary ewe fair and sale yesterday when approximately 20,000 sheep came forward and were submitted to a good attendance. The quality of the ewes did not compare with the previous week’s fair, resulting a considerable easing in prices, particularly the older ewesf but the few good pens of younger ewes sold well up to late rates and in some cases exceeded them. The top prices for the various ages were chained by''Messrs. Harvey Bros, for 2-tooth ewes at 30s 9d; 4-tooth ewes, account C. A. Cameron, at 32s 4d; 6-tooth ewes, account Te Mai Station, at 23s 4d; 4-year ewes, account C. J. Campbell, at 265; 5-year ewes, account R. S. Pilmer, 235; and 6-year ewes, account A. J. Speedy Estate, 14s. The wethers and lambs met with a good sale, particularly the ewe lambs which were keenly competed for. Practically .a total clearance was obtained at auction for all sheep yarded.
