OWNER GRANTED EXEMPTION FROM COMMANDEER. Official permission has been granted to Mr Bennie Engelbrecht, of Potchefstroom. South Africa, to keep a rifle which has an interesting history. The rifle belonged to his brother, Mr A. J. Engelbrecht, who was killed in action while fighting for the Boers at Yzerspruit, Klerksdorp district, during the Anglo-Boer War. Mr F. Kennedy, who was with the Australian contingent, took the rifle with him when he returned to his native country.

About two years ago, through Press publicity given to the matter. Mr Kennedy established contact with Mr Bennie Engelbrecht, with the result that the rifle was ultimately returned to him. The Government, by granting exemption from its being commandeered, has appreciated its sentimental '’nine.
