STAFF FAREWELL

GATHERINGS AT BOROUGH OFFICE. Closely following recently-reported eulogistic reference by the Mayor (Mr T. Jordan) to her past long association with the Borough Council office. Miss Eva Wickens has been the recipient oS two separate presentations: one by the gasworks employees and the other by associate members of the head office staff. In presenting Miss Wickens with a gold Eversharp pencil, and a goldferrulled fountain pen, the Gasworks Engineer (Mr J. Y. Douglas) said it was the sincere wish of the donors that the long-existing friendship existing between Miss Wickens and his staff should be suitably recognised in such manner as might recall to her mind occasionally the high esteem in which, from tlie very commencement of her association with gasworks affairs, she was held. In the field of outdoor sports (tennis, badminton, etc.) they could still watch her past championship of “their side of the field'’ with old-time zeal. In later making Miss Wickens a further presentation of a fine New Zea-land-made rug. and a latest-design flexible bedroom-wall reading lamp,' the Town Clerk (Mr G. T. O'Hara Smith) likewise eulogised the splendid service the recipient had rendered to the borough, and the public of Masterton. As in the instance of the first presentation, musical honours were accorded Miss Wickens.
