Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Newall, will leave Wellington for Auckland today to pay their first official visit to that city. Their Excellencies will return to Wellington on Thursday morning. The Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, Minister of Health, will leave Wellington for the north by the main trunk express, this afternoon.

Mr H. D. Prichard, Auckland, has, been appointed senior inspector of schools, with headquarters in Invercargill.

Dr. H. Ranston, who has had 25 years’ continuous service on the Home Mission Board, has been appointed a life member of the board by the Methodist Conference.

Air Commodore the Hon. R. A. Cochrane, C.8.E., A.F.C., formerly Chief of Air Staff, New Zealand, has been appointed Director of Flying Training, Air Ministry, London. , The death has occurred in Wellington of Mr. J. M. Tabuteau, at the age of 85 years. A brother, the late Mr. Chas. A. Tabuteau, will be remembered as manager many years ago of the Masterton Bank of New South Wales. The family were among the early Wellington residents.

A representative deputation of citizens waited on the Mayor of Waipukurau, Mr R. W. Carpenter, formerly of Masterton, with a request that he consent to be again nominated for the position. Speakers stressed the splendid work carried out by both the Mayor and the Mayoress during the past three years. Mr Carpenter consented to the deputation’s request.

Word has been received that Mr. E. W. G. McKenzie, formerly of the Masterton branch of the Bank of New South Wales, who is a member of the New Zealand Air Force, was ■ dangerously injured in air operations on February 25. Pilot-Officer McKenzie was in Masterton for six months, leaving for the Inspector’s Office of the Bank of N.S.W., Wellington in September, 1939, prior to joining up with the Air Force.

The Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, Prime Minister, will leave Wellington for Auckland by the main trunk express this afternoon. He will attend a civic reception to the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, and Lady Newall, to be Jield in Auckland on Monday, and he will be present at a reception to be given by the Municipal Association that evening in honour of Their Excellencies. Mr Fraser will also attend the official opening on Tuesday of the annual conference of the association. He will return to Wellington on Wednesday.
