BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING LAST NIGHT. PRAISE FOR PIPE BAND. Tho first meeting <-f the new year of the Wairarapu College Board of Governors was held lasi night. Mr W. R. Nicol presided and there were present also Mrs J. L. Hair Messrs J. D. O’Connor. L. T. Daniell. F. C. Daniell F. M. Whyte, G. C. L. Dickel. E. Hanley. A. Owen Jones, the acting principal, Mr G. W. Morice, and the secretary. Mr H. M. Buddington. Commenting on the roll numbers, the chairman said that all fourth standards in-the primary schools were very large this year as the result of the influx of five-year-olds. In three years' time the OfTect would be a considerable increase in college roll numbers. "It is a great acquisition to the College." said Mr Nicol, referring to the recent performances of the Pipe Band and to the numerous calls which had been made on it to appear at patriotic functions. Mr Nicol said tho band deserved congratulation on its performances. both collectively and individually. and on its general behaviour which he understood was exemplary. The resignation was received of Mr V. Wilton part time wool-classing instructor and it was decided to send liirn a letter of thank:; for his services. Mr Malcolm Stuart had boon appointed tentatively to fill the vacancy. It was decided to congratulate a member of the Fl.'dT. Mr J D. Todd, on gaining the New Zealand University Tinline Scholarship in English. Tin? principal reported the following roll numbers: Returned, boys 184. girls 138. total 322; transferred from other schools. 7 7 14; beginners. 281. 221. 502 Examination result l wore as follow reported .Mr Morice: Higher Leaving Certificates, 11; University Entrance If); School Certificate. 14 passes. 6 partial passes; Diploma of Fine Art: 1 partial pass Hiv<- subjects!; admitted to Teachers' Training College, 7; Public Service Entrance, 22
