ARMY QUEEN RACE MEETING. LAST NIGHT'S RESULTS. 'Die Municipal Hall was filled las' evening when (he Army Queen Committee's second night of lhe Carnival Races was held. Excitement ran high throughout the evening and many thrilling finishes were witnessed. The results are as follow: — The Rimutaka Tunnel Welter: J. R McKenzie's Warder's Plight 'Miss Nol; HargoodL Tlie "Canteen Flyer": Phil Hawksworth's Double Fault 'Miss Isobel Palmer). "Over the River to Jordan": The Chairman's Assistant 'Mrs G. Daubney).
The Taratahi Handles: Mrs G. Beecroft's Great Hope 'Mr H. G. Alexandei ). Artillery Advance: G. Daubney's Vocabulary (Miss Audrey Kcisenberg '. Footsloggers Parade; H. B. Maunsell's Prairie Flower (Miss Flo Roebuck >. Taueru Trot: The Ironmonger's Worker (Mr Roy PawsonL Army Service Sweepstake: G. Bullick ’ Blackmore's Shirty 'Miss Lola Hopkins). Carnival Cup: N. B. Maunsell’s Prairie Flower (Miss Flo Roebuck). The third meeting will be held on Tuesday night and al! entries close tomorrow at 12 noon at lhe State Kitchenette. The public are notified in an advertisement in this issue that the Trentham Military Band will be in attendance in Masterton at an early date tc assist the Army Queen's Carnival. On Sunday. March 9 by courtesy of the Slate Theatre, a special film in glorious colour of the recent Interhouse display and. Children's Carnival will be shown. Seats inay.be reserved a*. Messrs Hugo and Shearer's shop Further details will be announced tomorrow. A Fashion and Bathing Beauty Parade will be held in the Opera House at an early date. The parade is sponsored by the Combined Retail Shops in Masterton and it is anticipated tha’ the event will be one of the most popular of the carnival.

But neither of those memorable military marches will compare with the mammoth march of lhe multitude of merry Mastertonians to lhe money-making market in lhe Municipal Mansion, in March, where lhe modest means of many model and meticulous mothers may multiply materially by marketing methodically midst the multitudinous mountains of meat and merchandise,

CAMPAIGN IN MASTERTON. WHEELBARROW DERBY DECIDED. The Navy-Nursing Services eommil'lee announce that Mrs. Gray, of Bannister Street. Mastertun. has won the canaries. The committee is very grateful for a donation of £2B as the result of a private stock sale. Yesterday’s big event, the schools* wheelbarrow derby, attracted considerable attention even from Hawke's Bay visitors. The traffic was controlled by Messrs McGregor and Flaws while a field of twenty starters lined across Queen Street An excellent rave was won in quid; time by R.
