■ Cablegrams Prohibited. I The Controller of Censorship directs that the acceptance of cablegrams for Roumania and Hungary is no longer permitted. Work Resumed at Mine. ■ Work was resumed yesterday at the ; Millerton coal mine. The cause of the : stoppage will be the subject of an inquiry by a commission which is arriving at Westport from Wellington. Fire in Haystack. Sparks from a rubbish fire set alight a haystack in the Solway College grounds, yesterday, and the Masterton Fire Brigade, receiving a call at 3 p.m. had the fire out before much hay had been destroyed. Injuries Prove Fatal. The death occurred at the Waikato Hospital yesterday of William Readhead. aged 55. farmer. Waihou, who was seriously injured When a car he was driving collided on Tuesday with a train at Te Aroha. His 13-year-old son. who was with him, is still in a serious condition. Dairy Factory Hours. Objection to a proposal by employers to secure a seven-day working week in all dairy factories was voiced at a meeting of the Wellington branch of the Dairy Employees' Union at Palmerston North last night. The meeting was of the opinion that serious trouble would ensue if the proposal eventually became operative, claiming that no question of war effort was involved. Hutt Valley Hospital. A decision to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for authority to raise an additional loan of £ 147.100 for cost to be incurred in the erection of the Hutt Valley Hospital was made by the Wellington Hospital Board at its meeting last night. The present loan authority is for £254.250 and the addi--tional authority sought will bring the' total to £401,350.
Trading Banks’ Funds. An increase in net overseas funds, a substantial rise in demand liabilities, an increase of nearly £1.000.000 in Government securities and decreases in advances and notes in circulation are the principal features of the latest monthly returns of the six trading banks. London funds on January 27 totalled £1,2941,920, compared with £12,640.766 on December 30, an increase of £1.651,154. Overseas funds held elsewhere than in London amounted to £2,115.265, compared with £2,248,315, a decrease of £133,050.
Rotary Anniversary.
Speaking on the birthday of Rotary at the Masterton Rotary luncheon meeting yesterday. Mr. S. L. P. Free mentioned that in 36 years rotary had grown from one club to 5044 clubs, with a membership of 210.000. These arc the figures for the current year after allowing for the defection of the totalitarian States. It was noteworthy that even before war was declared Germany. Italy and Austria had withdrawn from this international movement whose motto is "Rotary as an opportunity for service." A Female Churchill.

Warm appreciation of the splendid offer of the Anzae War Relief Fund, New York, to give 20 ambulance cars and five mobile canteens to New Zealand’s armed forces has been expressed by the Minister of Defence. Mr. Jones, who lias received particulars of the donation. Fifteen of the ambulance cars are for use of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Egypt and five for the Army in New Zealand. The five mobile canteens are to be built to the specifications of the National Patriotic Fund Board and ship-1 ped to Suez. It is expected that the. 20 ambulance cars will be shipped ■ from New York during next month. Eg<j Supplies.
