j HIGH SALARIES. — i This is the time of the year, in the film world, when options arc being taj ken up or dropped and contracts adf justed. • How would you like to be given a ' "rise" of £.370 a week? That is what ! happened the other day to eighteeni year-old Judy Garland. Her salary was increased, with the approval of the Superior Court, from £l3O a week to £5OO a week. The agreement provides for a further increase tit the end of two years to £OOO a week and at the end of five I years to £7OO a week. j Judy is already a wealthy girl. Her ; mother. Mrs Ethel Gilmore, told th| judge that the child star's savings now ' total £25,000. while she also owns an ; £ 18.000 homo in Bel Air. Judy's mother is allowed £125 a week out of the £5OO for Judy's pro- ' fcssional and living expenses. .The remainder must be set aside for the next three years of her daughter's minority. Mickey Rooney's Rise in Salary. Mickey Rooney has had a rise in salary. Under a new contract approved by the Los Angeles Superior Court the other day. ho is to receive £250 in his pay packet every Saturday, plus a £6OOO bonus for each picture he completes. with a guaranteed minimum of £12,000 a year over and above his regular salary, The £250 a week stipend applies to] the first year and there is a guarantee ’ of 40 weeks of work. The second year 1 his salary will be £3OO a week and if! the star's options arc taken up he will ' be earning £BOO a week at the end of seven years, apart from the-bonus. i Under the agreement. Mickey's .■ weekly wage will go to his mother for! household and other expenses, with the exception of £25 a week pocket money. The £6OOO bonuses, however, will be put in a trust fund for the benefit of Mickey after he is 35. At 19. Mickey Rooney seems to be a young man with a future.
