WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT HASTWELL. ("Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Hastwell Women’s Institute was held on Thursday when Mrs A. V. Madsen presided over a large attendance of members. Nominations were called for the new committee and final arrangements made for the birthday dance which is to be held on March C. The secretary read two letters which were received from soldiers overseas, thanking the Institute for parcels they had received at Christmas. One of the letters was from a soldier whose home is in Woodville. He said he had come to Hast well to play hockey. The competitions for the month resulted as follow: — Seniors:--Child's petticoat: Airs J. Dick. 1; Miss A. Dick. 2; Mrs Madsen and Miss H. Madsen (equal). 3. Juniors:—Child's nightdress: Miss I. Madsen. 1. The best collection of vegetables was won by Miss O. Halberg. The game which was run by Miss P. Thorby, resulted in Mrs J. Dick and Miss O. Halberg coming first equal. A parcel of children's garments was made up and sent to the Red Cross. The judges, Mrs Broadbent and Mrs Halberg and the hostesses were accorded voles of thanks. Mrs Elliott and Miss E. Larsen served afternoon tea. after which the singing of the National ■ Anthem brought a pleasant afternoon ■ to a close.
