CONTEST FOR KEAN TROPHY TRIANGULAR MATCH. FIRST OF PRESENT SEASON. The first of the triangular matches for the 1940-41 season was played on the Park green between representativj es of the Lyall Bay. Featherston and Park Bowling Clubs. Two games were played, the morning game consisting of 21 heads, and the afternoon game of 25 heads, the final result was: Lyall Bay. 181 points. Featherston 171. Spackman beat Allport. 28/24; Butler beat Phythian. 29/24. At the conclusion of play Mr. Card. I Featherston presented the trophy to the winning club and heartily congratulated the members upon their meritorious win. In accepting the trophy the president of the Lyall Bay Club thanked Mr. Card for his remarks, and also expressed the thanks of himself and his club to the hosts for the arrangements. These remarks were endorsed by the president of the Featherston Club on behalf of his fellow members, In reply, Mr. R. Wallace, president of the Park Club, said the whole of his club had worked together in making the preparations, and it was sufficient reward to have the assurance of the previous speakers that every one had thoroughly enjoyed himself. A special vote of thanks was given by all to Mr. Buckley the green custodian, and the club caterer. Miss Watt. CENTRE CONTEST CHAMPION OF CHAMPION SINGLES. PLAY AT FEATHERSTON. Three of the five rounds of the Champion of Champion singles were played on Saturday in glorious weather on the Featherston green, which was in perfect order. The club champions taking part were H. Carr (Park). W. Christian (Masterton), F. Harrington (Carterton). N. S. McLeod (Greytown), J. Larsen (Martinborough) and If. Rolls (Featherston). The games were all keenly contested several being outstanding for the remarkable recoveries that were made after a disastrous start. Carr, who played consistently good bowls was robbed of victory on the 21st end in each of his three games. In the first round Christian led Carr 11-2 on the 7th end. but on the 15th end the score was 15 all, and on the 20th end 18 all. Christian drew the shot on the last end to win the game. McLeod led Rolls until the 16th end. but on the next end Rolls drew level 14 all. McLeod them wont ahead to win by three, Harrington could not find the green in his first game and went down to Larsen, who scored consistently. In the second round Rolls scored 17 before Larsen opened his score with a two on the 9lh end. On the 20th end the score was 21-12 in Rolls'* favour. Harrington made a wonderful recovery in his game with Carr. On the lllh end he was down 16-4. but the board read 18 all on the last end. and on an extra end being played, Harrington drew two shots to win the game. McLeod led Christian until the 13th end but Christian went to the front on the 15th end and maintained the lead. In the third round Harrington commenced well in his game with Rolls, being live up on the 3rd end, but had ».id’, increased his score by two on the lath end. the board then reading 18-7 in favour of Rolls who won by a margin of 10 points Larsen could not get going in his game with.
