RIVER TRAGEDY
THREE CHINESE CHILDREN DROWNED. ‘.By teleg ra ph--Press i AUCKLAND. February 22 Fears that three Chinese children were drowned in the Tamaki River, near Otahuhu, last evening, were confirmed this morning whet) the bodv of one of the children was discovered'. Ihe children were:—Jimmie Len, aged 14. Johnny Len. aged 10, Margaret Len, aged 8. The father is Fong Len. formerly of Paeroa, who has been in Auckland for the last few months and is living at market gardens in East Tamaki. Late yesterday afternoon the children went toward the river, which is close by. presumably to bathe. Later a Maori woman saw them in a small boat, winch was being carried downstream on the ebbing tide. When the children did not return home at dark the father and other Chinese instituted a search. It was unsuccessful. They then informed the Otahuhu police. A further search this morning revealed a capsized boat, and this was responsible for the finding of Johnny’s Lett's bodv.
