EKETAHUNA

MEMORIAL SERVICE FULL PARADE OF SCOUTS AND GUIDES. ("Times-Age" Special.) Glorious weather prevailed yesterday for the Memorial Service to the late Chief Scout, Lord Baden-Powell, organised by the Eketahuna Boy Scouts Association. The service was held in the .Memorial Rest Room grounds which lent itself ideally for the occasion. A full parade of Scouts in charge oi Scoutmaster A. H, Gray Guides and Brownies (Mrs N. Liardet) and Wolf Cubs <Mr H. Smith) marched through the main street to the grounds. The attendance of the public was not what it might, have been in view of the occasion. The proceedings were presided over by the Mayor. Mr W. Olsen, and with him on the stage were the Mayoress, Messrs M. W. Priest, chairman of the Scouts Committee. J. Tolley, secretary, A. 11. Herbert. Mrs D. Fraser, chairman of the Girls Guides committee; Miss C. Wilson, secretary of the Guides, and the Rev. D. McNeur. The singing of hymns- were accompanied by Miss M. Wilson 'organ) and Mr P. Bouzaid (violin). The Mayor gave an interesting resume of the life of the kite Lord Baden-Powell, whose passing, he said, was mourned by millions of Scouts and Guides throughout the world, and the movement would ever be a memorial to him,

The Rev. D. McNeur said the prayer of commemoration, and the prayer of rc-dedieation was lead by Mr H. Smith and Mr A. If. Gray read an appropriate passage of the Scripture.

The address was taken by Mr A. H. Herbert who stressed the importance of the good influence that the Scout movement had in moulding the character of young people and thus making them worthy citizens of New Zealand and of the Empire. He thought that the finest monument, that could be erected to the late Lord Baden-Powell was for the movement ho had created to be kept alive by this and future generations. The ceremony concluded with the Scouts. Clubs, Guides and Brownies repeating tin* Promises. , The hymns were announced by! Scout Drysdale and Guide Joyce Tolley. , —
