On Brest and Other Enemy Bases SWANSEA BOMBED ON THIRD SUCCESSIVE NIGHT ACTIVITY OVER STRAITS OF DOVER British bombers on Saturday night attacked the enemy naval base at Brest, the 8.8. C. reports. All the machines engaged returned safely, but one bombei* failed to return from a daylight patrol on Saturday. On Saturday night, enemy bombers struck at a noi'th-east coast town. There was a heavy defence barrage and a brilliant ball of fire was seen in the sky, followed by a heavy explosion. Watchers saw a showex' of sparks and some report seeing blazing wreckage. German fighters flew across the Straits of Dover on Saturday. British fighters went out to meet them and several of the enemy turned back before they could be engaged. The raiders made all possible use of prevailing cloud conditions. Agency f messages state that British bombers were seen flying eastward. A German bomber circling a lonely lighthouse was greeted with handwaves by the keeper and his mate, who thought the machine was British. The Germans replied to the greeting with machine-gun bullets. An Air Ministry and Ministry of Home Security com- ' munique states that there was slight enemy activity yesterday, mainly off the east and south-east coast. A few enemy aircraft crossed the coast but there are no reports of bombs having been dropped.
