RECRUITING CAMPAIGN TO OPEN COMING BAND CONCERTS IN MASTERTON. DEFENCE MINISTER LIKELY TO ATTEND. On the occasion of the visit to Masterton of the Band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band on March 8 to 10. a national recruiting campaign for the Air Force is to be inaugurated. A recruiting committee is to accompany the band in its tour. The Minister of Defence. Mr F. Jones, is expected to visit Masterton during the weekend of the band’s visit. SEVERAL PERFORAIANCES CIVIC RECEPTION IN PARK. The public of Masterton and surrounding districts is looking forward with great pleasure and keen anticipation to the visit of the Band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. This musical combination will appear first in the Masterton A. and P. Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon. March 8 at 3 o’clock. During the afternoon it will render a programme of popular marches and other light numbers, and will give an exhibition of quickstep and slow marching. In the evenings of March 8 and 9 at the Opera House and Regent Theatre respectively, music lovers will have an opportunity of hearing something different in the way of band music. The programmes will be exceptional and diversified and will include intermezzos. overtures, instrumental trios, solos, descriptive numbers, xylophone and vocal solos, also string, woodwind and piano quartette, and quintette. On Sunday at the Park the conductor and members of the band will be tendered a civic reception by the Mayor. Mr T. Jordan, at 3 o’clock. Immediately after the welcome, tho band will again give a marching display. Preliminary application for seats will now be received for both indoor concerts by applying to Mr J. C. D. Mackley, hon. treasurer. Patriotic* Committee, Box 39, Masterton. Country letters and telegrams will be filed in order of receipt and seats allotted accordingly. There will be no extra charge for booking. The ordinary plan for both performances will be opened on March 1 at Nimmo's. As the enthusiasm created by tho coming visit of the Band of tho Royal New Zealand Air Force is great patrons are advised to reserve their seats and to book early.
