WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL CONTESTS NEW JUNIOR HIGH JUMP RECORD. NELSON COMPETITOR'S FINE PERFORMANCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The outstanding performance at the Wellington amateur athletic championships on Saturday was that of D. R. Blundell. Nelson, in setting a fresh New Zealand record for the junior high jump with 5 feet 10 inches, which is five inches above the New Zealand standard for this event and four inches bettor than he jumped last year to win it. It was also three and a half inches better than the senior winner and

above the New Zealand senior standard.

The Wellington Club again won the R, W. McVilly Shield for the best aggregate in championship events with, 84 points. Kiwi being second with 41, and Varsity next with 21.

The Lower Hutt Club won the association’s cup for the country clubs’ championship (junior and women) with 31 points. Nelson and Masterlon each had 15 points and Eketahuna 9. Wellington won the J. W. Heenan baton for the inter-club relay. The conditions were ideal and a large crowd enjoyed good competition. Further interest was given the championships by the entry of an Air Force team from Levin, which won the A. C. Kitto shield for the grand parade.
