STOCK MARKET

FEILDING SALE .PRICES BETTER THAN EXPECTED. KEEN VALUES FOR PIGS. i FEILDING. February 21. | With an entry of 36.000 head, the i Feilding ewe fair today opened the first. !of the current season's lage sales of i sheep. The penning included a larger j proportion of two-tooth ewes than usual ; and for the most part they were of good to medium quality and yarded in fav- ! curable condition. In view of the * peculiar conditions affecting the meat market speculation about values had been general before the sale, and later it was generally agreed that prices were far better than had been expected. ' Bidding was strong without being keen ; and practically everything was sold . under the hammer. In past years fancy ; prices had been paid for specially- ' selected lines of two-tooths but a fairly I common want of confidence in the j future market held operators back from i spectacular limits. The top price of 48s for a line of twotooths yarded by the J. D. Hocking Estate. Kiwitea, was a splendid sale and topped the market. Ewes from this property have secured pride of place on many previous occasions, up to 65/being realised by Hocking ewes in the past. The next best price for two-tooths was 41s. these being yarded by J. E. Corpe, Feilding. Other good lines of two-tooths ranged from 35s to 37s Bd. and the average for all classes was about 32 -. For four-tooths up to 30s 6d was paid, and six-tooths made to 27s 6d. The sale for adult sheep was also better than expected, best four-ycar ewes making 26s Id to 27s 3d, and second grade from 23s 9d to 25s Gd. Five-year sorts were not in very strong inquiry, the top price being 20s 2d. with average sorts making about 15s Gd. No stock other than ewes was offered. Prices were keen for all classes of! pigs. Good weaners made 14s to 15s. I small 7s; slips, 20s to 24s 6d; stores, 28s i Gd to 355; boars. 30s. Poultry prices were: Hens. Is 2d to 2s I 7d; pullets, 5s Gd to 6s 3d; cockerels, Is i to 4s; ducks. Is 3d to 2s 4d. | '
