'By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. the Governor-General designate of New Zealand, Marshal of the Royal Air Force, Sir Cyril Newali, landed at Auckland at 10.30 oclock this morning and left half an hour later by special train for Wellington.
Sir Cyril was accompanied by Lady Newali. their throe children’. Miss Nora Walton. Lady-in-Wailing, members ot Sir Cyril's stall, including Captain C. J. Holland-Martin, A.D.C.. Mrs Bevan, wife of Wing-Commander 11. Bevan, comptroller, and their two sons; also members of the household stall'.
The proceedings when the Mariposa arrived were entirely informal. Sir Cyril was met by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr W. E. Parry, the . Mayor of Auckland. Sir Ernest Davis, . and the Chairman of the Harbour . Board. Mr Hendry Luke. Although the proceedings were informal they . were nut lacking in warmth. Mr , Parry conveyed a hearty welcome from the Government, while from Sir Ernest and Lady Davis Lady Newali received a magnificent sheath of orchids and lilies. 1 his is the first time for many years j that a Governor-General designate j has arrived at Auckland and the Waii temata presented a glorious sight as the liner steamed to her berth. Incidentally it was the first dav of sunshine that the travellers had enjoyed since the ship left San Francisco. The tup was one of (he most unpleasant for a long time, with wind, driving I rain squalls and rough seas. WELLINGTON PLANS SWEARING-!N CEREMONY. (Ry Telegraph—Press Association.i * . WELLINGTON, This Day. 1 he Governor-General designate and I.adv Newali will arrive at WellingJon by train at 8.55 a.m. tomorrow. They will be met by the Chief Justice <Sir Michael Myers) attended by > the Clerk of the Executive Council and ptlso the Premier (Mr Fraser) and other Ministers and high officials and members of the Legislature. Sir C. Newali wil inspect the guard of honour from the Army School and the Royal New Zealand Air Force, and on the conclusion of this ceremony will proceed to the War Memorial where he will lay a wreath. After an informal ceermony at the Town Hall, where the Mayor, Mayoress, councillors, etc., will be presented, their Excellencies will pay a visit t>> Government House. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Parliament Buildings at 11 a.m. .At this ceremony. Sir C. bit-wall's commission of appointment will be read by the Clerk of the Executive Council and Sir Cyril will take the oath of allegiance and the oath of office, which wil! both be administered by Sir M. Myers. The Prime Minister will then deliver a speech of welcome to their Excellencies and Sir C. Newali will reply.
