The damage in Santander is estimated to exceed £6.000.000. The hurricane killed hundreds of live stock throughout Spain. It wrecked 200 houses in Sestao and Viscaya, destroyed the village of Trevijano, near Logrono and damaged Burgos Cathedral. The damage in Portugal is estimated at £lO.OOO 000. One estimate says there were 500 deaths. The bean crop was destroyed, orange groves flattened and! ICO.OOO olive trees rooted up. In one small fishing port alone 600 boats were dashed to pieces. Wrecks of larger ships are constantly reported along the coast.
