Antone awards of the Distinguished Flying Cross for services in the Mediterranean area is that given to Flying Officer Osborn. This officer was the captain of a heavy bomber detailed to carry out a night raid on the Catania aerodrome. After dropping bombs on the target he descended to -too feet through intense and accurate fire and machine-gunned anti-aircraft guns and searchlights, putting a number of them out of action.
