The poundkeeper (Mr W. Jordon) reported that no stock had been impounded during December or January. The Health Officer reported that conditions generally in the town from a I health point of view were satisfacI tory. with the exception that the wa- ] ter at the swimming baths could be ! improved. He stated that the water i must be regularly chlorinated and un- ] less this was done the baths would I have to be closed. I It was pointed out that the senior | members of the Swimming Club were i nearly all on active service, but that I arrangements had been made to have the water chlorinated. The council | made a grant towards the cost of the ] material, ] The Commissioner of Transport ad- ] vised the extention of the licence pe- ! riod of motor vehicles from June 1 to ] June 30. This, would also apply to i motor drivers' licences. The cost this] | year would be 5s fid instead of ss. The Wellington Emergency Frccau-j tions Committee forwarded a copy of the minutes of their last meeting. This dealt with the evacuation and billet- i ing. The committee asked for a sur-i vey of the district for this purpose. ] The council decided to have a sur-1 vey made, and all householders arc to i be circularised in connection there-1 with. The Wellington Habour Board; wrote stating that an election for two ■ members would be held in May if ne- j cessary. It was decided that the ten per cent ' penalty on rates be imposed on I March 24. The Mayor stated that the m ganisa-i lion of the Emergency Precaution ] Committee was far from complete.! and that it was time this was altered ! The Emergency Precaution Scheme was Vitally important and must be put i on a proper basis. The Town Clerk w:.s instnicwd to send another circular to those concerned. ] Councillor Stuart moved that the; Town Clerk be given the 5 per cent I cost of li’/ing bonus, the same as had' ; been given to the outride stall.
