Perfect weather continued today for People's Day of the Alastertou Show and it was not surprising' that the al tendance was large. The congenial conditions enabled many people to enjoy a picnic in the midst of attractive surroundings, in which respect Solway Showgrounds are particularly well favoured. Prize-winning stock, which provide impressive. evidence of the excellent reputation of the district ’s breeders, paraded in style round the ring and in striking contrast a procession of modern caravans followed shortly afterwards. .Much diversion was caused by a group poi and canoe song contributed by the llnimai Maori Party. The judging of horses, dogs and a few outstanding cattle classes took' place today. The Young Farmers’ Club fat lamb judging and students' sheep judging competitions also look place today and a dmnonslration was given in the show ring by the winning dogs in the sheep dog trials. A full programtm* of ring competitions kept the public well entertained, the music, for certain events being provided by a loud speaker apparatus. Last night’s session, which was held in the interests of the Army Queen candidate, attracted a large attendance, the gate takings amounting to £B3 Ils lid. as compared with £6B last year. Aesterday the day takings totalled £2O 10s. against £25 5s (id on the first day hist year. ’Throughout (In* two days ol the show members of the Nursing Division, St John Ambulance, were on duly in case of emergency and the .Masterton branch of the I’lunket Society also have facilities ol assistance to mothers visiting the show.

Fleeces entered in the competition judged a day or two ago were on exhibition in the Ram Ring. Valuable assistance was given to the Press representatives reporting the horse events by Mr L. D, Cameron, the press steward. Sir Harry Batterbee, Trade Commissioner in New Zealand for the United Kingdom, who had hoped to be present at the show today sent a telegram apologising for his absence and expressing his best wishes for the success of the show.
