Eulogy Family May Establish Record
(BY
“THE GRAFTER.”)
Descendants of Eulogy, the greatest brood mare of her time, recognise no boundaries in carrying on their winning way, as they have been successful in American. India, South Africa. Australia and Nev? land, the fountain-head. Between them they have won over £120.000, and as her daughters and granddaughters are also proving successful matrons, the family might well establish a record that may never be surpassed.
Homily, winner of the Tonks Stakes at the Egmonl meeting, is a member of the family, being a five-year-old brown mare by Posterity from the Absurd mare Homage .one of the most successful of Eulogy's daughters at the stud. Homily has not won out of her turn in recent seasons, and the Tonks Stakes was her first victory this term. Last season she had two successes, the Marton Handicap and a dead-heat in the Tonks Stakes with Tamurangi. Earlier in her career Homily won the A.J.C. Canonbury Stakes, and her winnings amount to over £3500. The list of foals from Homage is as follows:—l92s—Ch f Episode, by Limond. 1926—Ch c Honour, by Lirnond. * 1927 —B f Courtesy, by Lirnond. 1928 — Missed to Pombal. 1929 —Br c Worship, by Pombal. 1930—8 g Prestige, by Lirnond. 1931—Ch c Deep Respect, by Lirnond. 1932—8 r c Heritage, by Posterity. 1933—Ch c Kow Tow, by Limond. 1934 —Br C Courtcraft, by Lirnond. 1935—8 r f Homily, by Posterity. 1936 —Br f Submission, by Lirnond. 1937— Missed to Posterity. 1938—8 y Posterity. Deep Respect was named in Australia. Honour was the outstanding colt from Homage, and it was unfortunate that he died after a couple of short seasons at the stud. He was a grand typo of racehorse, with victories in the C.J.C. Welcome. Wellington and A.R.C. Royal Stakes. New Zealand Derby, and A.J.C. Sires' Produce Stakes. PRODUCED GOOD WINNERS. Episode won the Great Northeim Champagne Stakes, and in turn produced winners in Epigram (eleven races, including A.R.C. Queen’s Plate). Burnish (Manawam Sires’ Produce Stakes and dead-heat in Gheat Northern Champagne Stakes). Entail (Great Northern Guineas and New Zealand S., I.eger), Kilsfolk, Heiress and Brazil. Epigram. Heiress and Kinfolk have | all been winners in Australia. Courtesy, a winner, followed Hon- ! cur. She has not been as successful as j some of the other members of the family as a brood mare, her progeny : being Kotou, Decorum, and Politesse. i the last-named pair being named in . Australia, and Patrician, a chestnut ; colt by Iliad, which Dr. Nigel Smith; secured as a yearling for 900gns.
PEERLESS AND YOGI. ! Worship won a number of races, while Prestige, a winner in Australia, has been represented by smart winners in Peerless and Yogi, both by Beat* Pcre. Peerless was the outstanding three-year-old filly of her day. winning the New Zealand and Great Northern Oaks and other good races. Deep Respect won races in Australia. while Heritage, after victories in the C.J.C. Challenge Stakes. Avondale Guineas, Trentham Stakes, and other races, was exported to India, where his victories- include the EcI lipse Stakes (twice). Kow Tow was a winner, though not ■up to the standard of some of the j others. Then came Courtcraft, a wini nor of the A.J.C. Canonbury Stakes and other good races. Homily and Submission have carried on the winning way. and Homage has played her part nobly in carrying on this peerless line.
