Taylor, in his monthly report, stated: Summarising the financial statement for January, the following details are the most important: Cash received on Electricity Account £2626 18s Id: cash received on Trading Account. £1139 3s 8d: cash received on Rent Account. £5B 19s 9d: cash received from miscellaneous sources. £32 12s Id: total receipts. £3857 13s 7d. The trading sales for January amounted to £699 16s 2d. | This is a reduction of 19 per cent, on i the returns for December, and -17 peri cent drop on November's figures. A | general lull has fallen over the whole' district. Practically no inquiries are coming in and very few people want to talk business. Cash outstanding on the trading account has been reduced by £400; country electricity outstand-! ings have increased by 20 per cent; [ outstandings in the two boroughs have declined-—in the Eketahuna borough j by 50 per cent., and in the Pahiatua j borough by 9 per cent. The amount of I arrears in country districts (£1226 5s 1 9d) is not alarming as it is accounted for by several balances of guarantees which have recently been entered against consumers. The hydro-electric loan of £200,000 is exhaused. The means are not to hand to give you the full facts as to the actual position until stock is taken and adjustments made as between the power fund and hydroelectric loan. Meantime. I entreat the board to discourage any capital ex- ■ penditure 'for which capital is not earmarked) except service linos, until after March 31. 1941. Early after that date we shall be better able to survey the general position and arrive al certain conclusions without hurting any class of consumer.
