VISIT OF BAND OF ROYAL ■ j N.Z. AIR FORCE. ! APPEARANCE IN MASTERTON NEXT MONTH. i! — ' : The advent of the Band of the Royal I 11 New Zealand Air Force is being await- f • led with great interest. The band of I I the Air Force has become famous and : | will arrive in Mastorton on Saturday.! I March 8. by special permission of the; I Minister of Defence. Mr. Jones. The j musical director is Flight-Lieutenant ; Gladstone Hill. Included in the per- > sonnel of the band are cornet, piccolo. I xylophone, clarinet, trombone, euphon-j ium. flute, oboe and vocal soloists, ; marches, quickstep, slow marches., ! rhapsodies, fantasies, waltzes, excerpts i ; from musical comedy and grand opera ! ; suites, festival music, overtures, sym-; ; phonic dances, and a number of Maori ■ l works are included in the band's re- ! ! pertoire. Outstanding among the items J ! i that will be played at the Sunday. evening's concert, will be a Maori I rhapsody, an arrangement by Llewel-; lyn Jones. This rhapsody is brilliant-1 ly effective in its orchestration, it is; constructed with a scholarly sense of, form, beauty and refinement. The I band’s marching, both quickstep and ; slow maching. will be a revelation to j those who will be privileged to see and i hear it. The marching of these 58 j ! musicians is magnificent, symmetrica! j and brilliant and no one should fail i-> ; witness their performance. The drum- { I mers. themselves, are a real treat, their work in unique and attractive, Preliminary applications for seats for | Saturday evening's concert programme, nt the Opera House and Sunday even-1 ling’s concert at the Regent Theatre' [will now be received.
