HEAVY BLOWS
STRUCK BY AIR FORCE IN ALBANIA TIRANA & DURAZZO BLASTED ACTION ON THE TEPELENE BATTLEFRONT. FURTHER IMPORTANT PROGRESS MADE BY GREEKS. The heaviest and most successful bombing attacks of the Albanian campaign were carried out on Wednesday night and on Thursday, a 8.8. C. broadcast states. A communique issued by the R.A.F. Headquarters in Greece states that on Wednesday night, the aerodromes at Tirana, the capital of Albania, and Durazzo, its port were severely damaged by heavy bombers. Hangars and other buildings were hit and at least four Italian bombers were destroyed on the ground. At Tepelene enemy troops and positions were subjected to a concentrated and sustained attack on Thursday by aircraft acting in support of the Greek land forces. Three enemy fighters which attempted to interfere were shot down in flames. The Greek Air Force also brought down an enemy plane. Two British bombers were lost. Further Greek successes in Albania are announced by the Athens radio. During an offensive lasting during an entire day, the Greeks took 7,000 Italian prisoners, including many officers. The Greeks dispersed the enemy from fortified positions and heights of great importance.
