POWER BOARD

MEETING AT CARTERTON LOWER INSTALLATION REVENUE. INABILITY TO MAINTAIN STAFFING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board was held in the Board Chambers, Carterton. today. Mi'. A. Campbell Pearce presided, and there also were present Messrs. S. Dalgleish. J. W. Colquhoun. F. C. Daniell. H. P. Hugo, and C. Holmes, and the secretary-manager. Mr. Geo. Brown. The chairman, the secretary-manager and the chief engineer were appointed to discuss the renewal of the Power Agreement with the Public Works Department. Speaking to his report the secretarymanager. Mr. G. Brown, said that the lower installation revenue was due to the board’s inability to maintain staffing. "And while we stick to the award agreement we will not get men,’’ ho added. The excellent service and special assistance which had been given by the district telephone exchanges and by the radio stations 2YA and 2ZB during the power shortage on January 8 were commented upon favourably by members. Mr. Brown reported that letters of thanks had been sent to the exchanges and to the radio stations. It was decided to send a copy of a report prepared on Masterton Street lighting charges to the Masterton Borough Council. The Electricity Controller had approved of certain reconstruction work to bi- carried out in Masterton and ] Greytown. "I think it is a great pity that the ! elections have not been postponed." i said Mr. Pearce when a letter was read > from the Power Boards’ Associationj advising that as nominations for the' ('lections were so far forward it would ] be unsatisfactory if the elections were ! postponed. "It seems a weak excuse,” I said Mr. Pearce. The secretary said the matter was I likely to be discussed at the forth- i corning conference of the Power] Board's Association. The chairman was authorised to vote i on the boards’ behalf in the Welling-1 ton Harbour Board election in the | board’s capacity as a nayer of dues.
