STORY OF SPLIT

LN THE FASCIST PARTY ALLEGED PEACE MOVE. GREEK AND OTHER REPORTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. February 11. The Athens radio states ll.'iil dissident members of the Fascist Party secretly met in Rome on January 15. and resolved to send Count Grandi tu London to sue for peace in the name of the Italian people. The police made many arrests and severely punished some of the participant. The Greek announcer added: “The news comes from an unimpeachable source. Signor Ansaldo (the Italian publicist) was aware of the proceedings." (Count Grandi was the Ambassador to London who was replaced several months before Italy entered the war.) A correspondent of the Columbia broadcasting system (New York). Mr Courtney 'Ferret, cabled today from Vichy: “British-Italian peace negotiations will start on the Riviera on Wednesday." Well-informed circles in London discredit the Terrett story.

No indication has yet been given of the outcome of the conversations between General Franco and Mussolini in Italy, but there is nothing to suggest that any important outcome is likely. It seems fairly clear, a 8.8. C. broadcast states, that the initiative for the meeting came from Mussolini and it is thought that General Franco will continue to insist that Spain’s requirements are peace, quietness and food.
